Please forgive this intrusion upon your time since i know that you are very busy. I am by the grace of God a Christian and am blessed to be a member of the one true people of God, the Holy Church. My ancestry is from the Syrian Orthodox Church, and i am once again blessed to be a follower of St Severus of Antioch, of blessed memory. Over the years i have read much of your work and am very impressed by your knowledge of the Holy Scriptures. This being the case I am in dire need of your advice.
As i am certain that you know, there are many ways in which the modern day Christian may loose their faith. On the one hand we have persons such as Dr Bart Ehrman, Geza Vermes and Candida Moss, who repeatedly attack deface and deny the faith and the blood of the Holy Martyrs. It does fell very crushingly factual and difficult to refute. On the other hand we have young, intelligent and highly articulate Islamic missionaries such as Mohammed Hijab, Paul Bilal Williams and Yusha Evans who regularly condemn the holy St Paul as an evil creature of the devil. A glance at the comments on Paul Bilal Willaims’s blog ‘Blogging Theology 2’ is very dispiriting and disquieting. Thirdly where was our Lord Christ when his followers were annihilated during Easter Sunday in Sri Lanka. Finally on a personal note i have recently been diagnosed with aggressive and irreversible stomach cancer, and there are days when i swear at the crucifix out of desperation and pain.
Everything seems to be turning against us and i am not certain that i will be able to endure it. Everyone seems intent upon destroying everything our holy fathers spent so much of their blood building and defending. There are times when, I must confess, i am tempted to give up and simply abandon Our Lord Jesus. I know that this is the voice of the demon, but his voice is powerful. Please, if you have time, may i ask for you advice and your comment upon these issues.
