The Hebrew Bible testifies that Jehovah rules in heaven as the Lord of all the earth, being Lord of all lords:
“Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth is to pass over before you into the Jordan… And when the soles of the feet of the priests who bear the ark of the LORD, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan shall be stopped from flowing, and the waters coming down from above shall stand in one heap.” Joshua 3:11, 13
“The mountains melt like wax before the Lord, before the Lord of all the earth.” Psalm 97:5
“O give thanks to the Lord of lords, for his steadfast love endures for ever;” Psalm 136:3
“Arise and thresh, O daughter of Zion, for I will make your horn iron and your hoofs bronze; you shall beat in pieces many peoples, and shall devote their gain to the Lord, their wealth to the Lord of the whole earth.” Micah 4:13
“Then he said, ‘These are the two anointed who stand by the Lord of the whole earth.’” Zechariah 4:14
“And the angel answered me, ‘These are going forth to the four winds of heaven, after presenting themselves before the Lord of all the earth.’” Zechariah 6:5
Amazingly, the inspired Christian Scriptures proclaim that Jesus is the One who reigns from heaven above as the Lord of all the earth, being the Ruler of all the kings of the earth and the very King of kings and Lord of lords!
“You know the word which he sent to Israel, preaching good news of peace by Jesus Christ (he is Lord of all)… And he commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that he is the one ordained by God to be judge of the living and the dead.” Acts 10:36, 42
“because, if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For man believes with his heart and so is justified, and he confesses with his lips and so is saved. The scripture says, ‘No one who believes in him will be put to shame.’ For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all and bestows his riches upon all who call upon him. For, ‘every one who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved.’” Romans 10:9-13
“If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord; so then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s. For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living.” Romans 14:8-9
“In the presence of God, who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who in his testimony before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, I charge you to keep the commandment without spot or blame until the manifestation of our Lord Jesus Christ, which HE will bring about at the right time—HE who is the blessed and ONLY Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords. It is HE ALONE who has immortality and dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see; to HIM be honor and eternal dominion. Amen.” 1 Timothy 6:13-16 New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
“and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the first-born of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood” Revelation 1:5
“These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands which stand before the Lord of the earth… and their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city which is allegorically called Sodom and Egypt, where their Lord was crucified.” Revelation 11:4, 8
“they will make war on the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those with him are called and chosen and faithful.” Revelation 17:14 – Cf. 19:16
Since the Scriptures are quite clear that there is only one Sovereign Lord who reigns from heaven, namely, Jehovah,
“Who is like the LORD our God, who is seated on high, who looks far down upon the heavens and the earth?” Psalm 113:5-6
“To thee I lift up my eyes, O thou who art enthroned in the heavens! Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the LORD our God, till he have mercy upon us.” Psalm 123:1-2
Jesus must, therefore, be Jehovah God in the flesh even though he is not the Father or the Holy Spirit.
This is further confirmed by what the Apostle Paul wrote in Romans 10:9-13, cited above, where he took the following OT citation, which speaks of the need to call on the name of Jehovah in order to be saved,
“And it shall come to pass that all who call upon the name of the LORD shall be delivered; for in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be those who escape, as the LORD has said, and among the survivors shall be those whom the LORD calls.” Joel 2:32
And applied it to the believers’ confessing Jesus as Lord, thereby identifying the risen Christ as that very Jehovah whom a person must call on for salvation!
