One of the major acts of worship for Muslims is the recitation of the Quran, a point which the Islamic scripture itself repeatedly makes:
And when the Qur’an is recited, give ear to it and pay heed, that ye may obtain mercy. S. 7:24 Pickthall
Perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat) from mid-day till the darkness of the night (i.e. the Zuhr, ‘Asr, Maghrib, and ‘Isha’ prayers), and recite the Qur’an in the early dawn (i.e. the morning prayer). Verily, the recitation of the Qur’an in the early dawn is ever witnessed (attended by the angels in charge of mankind of the day and the night). And in some parts of the night (also) offer the Salat (prayer) with it (i.e. recite the Qur’an in the prayer), as an additional prayer (Tahajjud optional prayer Nawafil) for you (O Muhammad). It may be that your Lord will raise you to Maqaman Mahmuda (a station of praise and glory, i.e. the highest degree in Paradise!). And say (O Muhammad): My Lord! Let my entry (to the city of Al-Madinah) be good, and likewise my exit (from the city of Makkah) be good. And grant me from You an authority to help me (or a firm sign or a proof). And say: “Truth (i.e. Islamic Monotheism or this Qur’an or Jihad against polytheists) has come and Batil (falsehood, i.e. Satan or polytheism, etc.) has vanished. Surely! Batil is ever bound to vanish.” And We send down from the Qur’an that which is a healing and a mercy to those who believe (in Islamic Monotheism and act on it), and it increases the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers) nothing but loss. S. 17:78-82 Hilali-Khan
With truth have We sent it down, and with truth hath it descended. And We have sent thee as naught else save a bearer of good tidings and a warner. And (it is) a Qur’an that We have divided, that thou mayst recite it unto mankind at intervals, and We have revealed it by (successive) revelation. Say: Believe therein or believe not, lo! those who were given knowledge before it, when it is read unto them, fall down prostrate on their faces, adoring. Saying: Glory to our Lord! Verily the promise of our Lord must be fulfilled. They fall down on their faces, weeping, and it increaseth humility in them. S. 17:105-108 Pickthall
Recite what has been revealed to thee of the Book, and perform the prayer; prayer forbids indecency and dishonour. God’s remembrance is greater; and God knows the things you work. S. 29:45 Arberry
Verily, those who recite the Book of Allah (this Qur’an), and perform As-Salat (Iqamat as-Salat), and spend (in charity) out of what We have provided for them, secretly and openly, hope for a (sure) tradegain that will never perish. S. 35:29 Hilali-Khan
O you wrapped in garments (i.e. Prophet Muhammad)! Stand (to pray) all night, except a little. Half of it, or a little less than that, Or a little more; and recite the Qur’an (aloud) in a slow, (pleasant tone and) style. S. 73:1-4 Hilali-Khan
Verily, your Lord knows that you do stand (to pray at night) a little less than two-thirds of the night, or half the night, or a third of the night, and so do a party of those with you, And Allah measures the night and the day. He knows that you are unable to pray the whole night, so He has turned to you (in mercy). So, recite you of the Qur’an as much as may be easy for you. He knows that there will be some among you sick, others travelling through the land, seeking of Allah’s Bounty; yet others fighting in Allah’s Cause. So recite as much of the Qur’an as may be easy (for you), and perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat) and give Zakat, and lend to Allah a goodly loan, and whatever good you send before you for yourselves, (i.e. Nawafil non-obligatory acts of worship: prayers, charity, fasting, Hajj and ‘Umrah, etc.), you will certainly find it with Allah, better and greater in reward. And seek Forgiveness of Allah. Verily, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most-Merciful. S. 73:20 Hilali-Khan
And when the Qur’an is recited to them, they fall not prostrate, S. 84:21 Hilali-Khan
This explains why there are hadiths and Muslim scholars that emphatically state that reciting the Quran is an act of worship, in fact the best act of worship:
The prophet said: “[Among] The best act of worship of my nation is reciting the Quran.”
This Hadith has been recorded on the authority of An Nu’man ibn Bashir and Anas. Imam Abu Nu’aym, Imam Bayhaqi and other Muhaddithun have recorded this narration. ‘Allamah ‘Iraqi has declared both chains weak. (Fadailul Quran of Abu Nu’aym; Refer: Al Mughni ‘An Hamlil Asfar, Hadith: 860, Musnadush Shihab, vol. 2 pg. 246, Hadith: 1284 and Shu’abul Iman, Hadith: 1865) (Reciting Quran is among the best act of worship – Hadith)
This means a thing that has been sent down from Allah and recorded from cover to cover of the manuscript, ITS RECITATION IS AN ACT OF WORSHIP, and by whose small Surah a challenge has been thrown; the name of that speech is the Qur’an. (Sheikh ul-Islam Ibn Taimiyah, Sharh Al-Aqeedat-il-Wasitiyah [Darussalam Publications, 1996], p. 118; bold and capital emphasis mine)
Sira literature indicates that it was not until the end of the Meccan period (at least) that the five daily prayers were ordained for the Muslim community. In the early years of the revelation, Qur’anic recitation, especially at night, seems to have been the foundation of worship. One of the earliest suras begins with the verses… (Muzzammil; 73:1-4) (Ingrid Mattson, The Story of the Qur’an: Its History and Place in Muslim Life [Wiley-Blackwell, Second edition 2013], p. 53; bold emphasis mine)
This is where it gets interesting.
There are narrations which have Allah himself reciting surahs of the Quran long before creation came into existence!
Narrated AbuHurayrah:
Allah’s Messenger said, “A thousand years before creating the heavens and the Earth, Allah RECITED Ta-Ha and Ya-Sin, and when the angels HEARD the recitation they said, ‘Happy are the people to whom this comes down, happy are the minds which carry this, and happy are the tongues which utter this.”
Darimi transmitted it (Al-Tirmidhi Hadith, 660 http://www.alim.org/library/hadith/TIR/660; bold and capital emphasis mine)
8 The Excellent Qualities of the Qur’an
Abū Huraira reported God’s messenger as saying, “A thousand years before creating the heavens and the earth God recited Tā’ Hā’ (Qur’ān, 20) and Yā’ Sīn, and when the angels heard the recitation they said, ‘Happy are a people to whom this comes down, happy are the minds which carry this, and happy are the tongues which utter this’.”
Dārimī transmitted it.

We, thus, have Allah performing one of the greatest, if not the greatest, act of worship! And since the Muslim deity was doing so long before the creation of the heavens and earth this makes him the original and primal Quran reciter!

Sahih International Koran 17:78 Establish prayer at the decline of the sun [from its meridian] until the darkness of the night and [also] the Qur’an of dawn. Indeed, the recitation of dawn is ever witnessed.
Notice that the recitation at other times isn’t witnessed?! Yet, isn’t Allah always a witness, overall?
I think that the witness here, is Jibril, and it refers to the sun rays over the horizon forming Jibril’s 600 wings. For more on this, see my page: Gabriel ≠ Jibril, which shows a picture of the sunbeams of Jibril, shafts of light and shadow, formed by the Sun’s light at dawn over the mountains on the horizon.

One also has to question, why is Allah reciting and not writing on the eternal tablets? This recitation by Allah shows that his eternal tablets don’t exist with Allah, but they are with Muhammad and Muhammad’s magic pen, his scribe. Thus showing Allah is merely Muhammad, boasting. Thus Allah is Muhammad, Muhammad is Allah, Islam is false and Koran is lies and nonsense.
