The King James Version of the Holy Bible

In this segment of my ongoing series (https://islamunmasked.com/2019/02/19/the-jehovahs-witnesses-nightmare-pt-1/), I  am going to show how the Authorized King James Version (AV) of the Holy Bible provides answers that prove quite devastating to the Jehovah’s Witnesses’ (JWs) attempt of undermining core essential doctrines, specifically the Trinity and the Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ. 

In a publication aimed at discounting the Trinity, the Society cites 1 Timothy 2:5 to prove that the disciples of the risen Lord did not view him as God:

 “… The disciples viewed Jesus as the ‘one mediator between God and men,’ not as God himself. (1 Timothy 2:5) Since by definition a mediator is someone separate from those who need mediation, it would be a contradiction for Jesus to be one entity with either of the parties he is trying to reconcile. That would be a pretending to be something he is not.” (Should You Believe in the Trinity?, p. 16)

Suffice it to say, there are a few major problems with the Society’ objection. But first, we need to quote the passage in question in its immediate context so that the readers can understand our response more clearly:

“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; for kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God (heis… Theos), and one mediator (heis… mesites) between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.” 1 Timothy 2:1-7

Now that we have presented the context of the verse we can proceed to address the argument set forth against Christ’s Deity by the Society.

To begin with, contrary to the Society’s teaching that Christ was resurrected as an immortal spirit creature named Michael the archangel, the Holy Bible emphatically teaches God prevented Jesus’ physical, flesh body from decaying by raising it up from the dead, thereby making it immortal and incorruptible:

“And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit. And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts? Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not FLESH AND BONES, AS YE SEE ME HAVE. And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet. And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat? And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb. And he took it, and did eat before them.” Luke 24:36-43

“Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day. Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; he seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, NEITHER HIS FLESH DID SEE CORRUPTION. This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.” Acts 2:29-32

John’s Gospel reports that the risen Christ invited Thomas to touch and see the marks of the nails in his hands, as well as to place his hand in Jesus’ side which had been punctured by the soldier’s spear thrust:

“But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. And Thomas answered and said UNTO HIM, My Lord and my God. Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.” John 20:24-29

This shows that Jesus not only possesses a physical body, but that the body that he had been raised with is the same one that had been beaten and nailed to a cross.

John further writes that the glorified Christ reigns from heaven as a physical descendent of Judah and David:

“And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.” Revelation 5:5

“I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I AM the root and the OFFSPRING of David, and the bright and morning star.” Revelation 22:16

Now the only way that Jesus could continue to be from the tribe of Judah and the offspring of David is if he still possesses a human nature, since a spirit being has no human ancestry or lineage.

The Apostle Paul preached to the Athenians that God would judge the world by a man whom he had raised from the dead:

“And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by THAT MAN whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.” Acts 17:30-31

Common sense dictates that Jesus could only judge the world as a man at his return if he continues to exist as a human being (albeit a glorified and immortal One) in heaven itself.

Therefore, the Society is simply wrong when it claims that it would be a contradiction “for Jesus to be one entity with either of the parties he is trying to reconcile” because “a mediator is someone separate from those who need mediation.” After all, the NT plainly teaches that the risen Lord continues to exist as a glorified, immortal human being who mediates and intercedes on behalf of other human beings that come to God through him:

“Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; and deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham. Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.” Hebrews 2:14-18

“And they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death: but this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens; who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this he did once, when he offered up himself. For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore.” Hebrews 7:23-26

The same inspired Scriptures also proclaim that Christ is actually one in essence with the God for whom he mediates,

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. I and my Father are one. Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him. Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me? The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.” John 10:27-30

Since he possesses the whole fullness of the Godhead, or that which makes God all that he is, in bodily form:

“For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.” Colossians 2:9

So much for the Society’s argument that Christ cannot be one entity with either God or the men for and to whom he mediates.
