WORSHIPING JESUS AS GOD SESSION

This post was written specifically for the livestream I did with David Wood on this same topic. Here’s the link to the talk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGrUslfXCnU.

Our Lord proclaimed that the Father’s express command is for all men to honor the Son in the exact same way that they honor the Father:

The Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son, that all men should honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.” John 5:22-23

As I will now demonstrate, this is precisely what we find in the NT documents, namely, Jesus Christ is given the same exact worship which is to be given to Jehovah God alone.

 LOVING JESUS UNCONDITIONALLY AND SELF-SACRIFICIALLY

He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. And He who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.” Matthew 10:37-39

“Then Jesus said to His disciples, ‘If anyone will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? For the Son of Man shall come with His angels in the glory of His Father, and then He will repay every man according to his works.'” Matthew 16:24-27

COMPARE

“Jesus said to him, ‘”You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.” This is the first and great commandment.'” Matthew 22:37-38

JESUS AS THE OBJECT AND HEARER OF PRAYERS

“Then He said to His disciples, ‘The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest, that He will send out laborers into His harvest.’ He called His twelve disciples to Him and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease… These twelve Jesus sent out, and commanded them, saying, ‘Do not go into the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter any city of the Samaritans… As you go, preach, saying, “The kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, and cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give… Look, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.’” Matthew 9:37-38; 10:1, 5, 7-8, 16

“Truly, truly I say to you, he who believes in Me will do the works that I do also. And he will do greater works than these, because I am going to My Father. I will do whatever you ask in My name, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.” John 14:12-14

“Praise awaits You, O God, in Zion; and to You a vow will be fulfilled. O You who hears prayer, to You all flesh will come.” Psalm 65:2

JESUS WORSHIPED AS JEHOVAH

FIRST EXAMPLE

“Then he said, ‘The God of our fathers has appointed you to know His will and to see the Just One and to hear HIS voice, for you will be HIS witness to all men of what you have seen and heard. And now why do you wait? Rise, be baptized and wash away your sins, and call on the name of the Lord.’ When I returned to Jerusalem and was praying in the temple, I fell into a trance and saw HIM saying to me, ‘Hurry! Get out of Jerusalem immediately, for they will not receive your testimony concerning ME.’ I said, ‘Lord, they know that I imprisoned and beat those who believed in YOU in every synagogue. And when the blood of YOUR martyr Stephen was shed, I was standing by consenting to his death, guarding the clothes of those who killed him.’ Then HE said to me, ‘Depart, for I will send you far away to the Gentiles.’ ”” Acts 22:14-21

“They stoned Stephen as he was calling on God, praying, ‘Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.’ Then he knelt down and cried with a loud voice, ‘Lord, do not hold this sin against them.’ Having said this, he fell asleep.” Acts 7:59-60

“Ananias answered, ‘Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how many evil things he has done to Your saints at Jerusalem. And here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call on Your name.’… Immediately he preached in the synagogues that the Christ is the Son of God. All who heard him were amazed and said, ‘Is not this he who killed those who called on this name in Jerusalem, and came here with that intent, to bring them bound to the chief priests?’” Acts 9:13-14, 20-21

“To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all who in every place call on the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both their Lord and ours:” 1 Corinthians 1:2

COMPARE

“Into Your hand I commit my spirit; You have redeemed me, O LORD, God of truth.” Psalm 31:5

“The dust returns to the earth where it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.” Ecclesiastes 12:7

“Moses and Aaron were among His priests, even Samuel was among them who called upon His name; they called upon the LORD, and He answered them. He spoke to them in the pillar of cloud; they kept His statues and the ordinance that He gave them. You answered them, O LORD our God; You were a God who forgave them, though You took vengeance on their wrongdoing.” Psalm 99:6-8

“The LORD is near to all those who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth.” Psalm 145:18

SECOND EXAMPLE

“But when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that He did, and the children crying out in the temple, ‘Hosanna to the Son of David,’ they were extremely displeased and said to Him, “Do You hear what these are saying?” Jesus said to them, ‘Yes. Have you never read, “Out of the mouth of children and infants You have perfected praise”?’” Matthew 21:15-16

COMPARE

“[For the end, concerning the wine-presses, a Psalm of David.] O Lord, our Lord, how wonderful is thy name in all the earth! for thy magnificence is exalted above the heavens. Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou perfected praise, because of thine enemies; that thou mightest put down the enemy and avenger.” Psalm 8:1-3 LXX

THIRD EXAMPLE

“And again, when He brings the firstborn into the world, He says: ‘Let all the angels of God worship Him.’” Hebrews 1:6

COMPARE

“Let all that worship graven images be ashamed, who boast of their idols; worship him, all you his angels.” Psalm 96[97]:7 LXX

THE ENTIRE CREATION WORSHIPS JESUS

FIRST EXAMPLE

“Therefore God highly exalted Him and gave Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:9-11

COMPARE

“I have sworn by Myself, the word has gone out of My mouth in righteousness and shall not return, that to Me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall take an oath.” Isaiah 45:23

SECOND EXAMPLE

“Then I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a scroll written within and on the back, sealed with seven seals. And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, ‘Who is worthy to open the scroll and to break its seals?’ But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll or to look in it. I began to weep loudly, because no one was found worthy to open and read the scroll, or to look in it. Then one of the elders said to me, ‘Do not weep. Look! The Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals.’ I saw a Lamb in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, standing as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God, sent out into all the earth. He came and took the scroll out of the right hand of Him who sat on the throne. When He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each one having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of saints. And they sang a new song, saying: ‘You are worthy to take the scroll, and to open its seals; for You were slain, and have redeemed us to God by Your blood out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation, and have made us kings and priests unto our God; and we shall reign on the earth.’ Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voices of many angels, numbering ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice: “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing!’ Then I heard EVERY CREATURE which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and in the sea, AND ALL THAT ARE IN THEM, saying: ‘To Him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and power, forever and ever!’ The four living creatures said, ‘Amen.’ And the twenty-four elders fell down and worshipped Him who lives forever and ever.” Revelation 5:1-14

COMPARE

“Now God spoke all these words, saying: I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before Me. You shall not make for yourself any graven idol, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water below the earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation of them who hate Me,” Exodus 20:1-5

DOXOLOGIES TO CHRIST

“to whom belong the patriarchs, and from whom, according to the flesh, is Christ, who is over all, God forever blessed. Amen.” Romans 9:5

“I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at HIS appearing and HIS kingdom… From now on a crown of righteousness is laid up for me, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on that Day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved HIS appearing… At my first defense no one stood with me, but everyone forsook me. May it not be charged against them. But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me, so that through me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear. And I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion. The Lord will deliver me from every evil work and will preserve me for HIS heavenly kingdom, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.” 2 Timothy 4:1, 8, 16-18

“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be glory, both now and forever. Amen.” 2 Peter 3:18
