THE ETERNAL LIFE-GIVING HEIR

In this short post I will prove how both the Quran and God’s true Word show that Jesus did say he is God Almighty in the flesh, and so did his inspired agents.

MUHAMMAD’S ILAH

According to the Quran Allah is the ruler of the heavens and earth, and the one who inherits all creation. Allah is further said to be the best of those who inherits:

To God belongs the Kingdom of the heavens and of the earth; and God is powerful over everything. S. 3:189

But as for those who are niggardly with the bounty God has given them, let them not suppose it is better for them; nay, it is worse for them; that they were niggardly with they shall have hung about their necks on the Resurrection Day; and to God belongs the inheritance of the heavens and earth; and God is aware of the things you do. S. 3:180

It is We who give life, and make to die, and it is We who are the inheritors. S. 15:23

Surely We shall inherit the earth and all that are upon it, and unto Us they shall be returned. S. 19:40

and We shall inherit from him that he says, and he shall come to Us alone. S. 19:80

And Zachariah — when he called unto his Lord, ‘O my Lord, leave me not solitary; though Thou art the best of inheritors.’ S. 21:89

The Muslim scripture describes Allah as the Truth, and the First and the Last who gives life, brings death, and who will raise the dead at the last hour:

That is because God — He is the Truth, and brings the dead to life, and is powerful over everything, and because the Hour is coming, no doubt of it, and God shall raise up whosoever is within the tombs. S. 22:6-7

To Him belongs the Kingdom of the heavens and the earth; He gives life, and He makes to die, and He is powerful over everything. He is the First and the Last, the Outward and the Inward; He has knowledge of everything. S. 57:32-33

This explains why some of the names of Allah include “the Truth,” “The Heir/Inheritor,” “The Life-giver,” and “The First and the Last”:

Al-Haqq: The Truly Real

The Truth, the Real, the Really-existing, He whose existence and divinity are true, the One who creates according to the requirements of wisdom, justice, right, rightness, the Necessarily-existing by His own Essence, He whose existence is undeniable. Every reality exists from His essence and nothing has any intrinsic reality except Him.

Al-Haqq is one of the Ninety-Nine Names…

Al-Awwal, Al-Akhir: The First and the Last

Al-Akhir is He who remains after all His creatures have perished.

Al-Awwal is the First, preceding all others.

Al-Awwal and Al-Akhir are two of the Ninety-Nine Names…

Al-Wârith: The Inheritor

The One who inherits and continues after all others have ceased to be; thus all returns to Him. He is the true owner of all.

Al-Warith is one of the Ninety-Nine Names…

Al-Muhyî, Al-Mumît: The One Who Gives Life, The One who Makes Die

The Life-Giver or Quickener who makes something alive, to be a living thing; He quickens him or endues him with life or revives him. He revives the earth with rain and endues with intelligence. Al-Mumit is the One who causes to die.

Al-Muhyi and Al-Mumit are two of the Ninety-Nine Names. (Aisha Bewley, The Divine Names)

YHVH GOD

God’s truly inspired Word, the Holy Bible, concurs that the true God is the Heir and the Truth, being the First and the Last who always is:

“Arise, O God, judge the earth; For You shall inherit all nations.” Psalm 82:8

“Into Your hand I commit my spirit; You have redeemed me, O LORD God of truth.” Psalm 31:5

“Who has performed and done it, Calling the generations from the beginning? ‘I, the LORD, am the first; And with the last I am He.’” Isaiah 41:4

“Thus says the LORD, the King of Israel, And his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts: ‘I am the First and I am the Last; Besides Me there is no God.’” Isaiah 44:6 – Cf. 48:12

THE LORD JESUS CHRIST

The foregoing helps us appreciate what the Lord Jesus and his inspired emissaries proclaimed about him.

For instance, Christ claims to be the unique divine Son and Heir who owns everything that belongs to the Father, possessing absolute sovereign authority over all creation:

“And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.’” Matthew 28:18

“Therefore still having one son, his beloved, he also sent him to them last, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’ But those vinedressers said among themselves, ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’ So they took him and killed him and cast him out of the vineyard.” Mark 12:6-8

All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.” John 16:15

“And all Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine, and I am glorified in them.” John 17:10

The risen Lord also taught that he is the First and the Last who gives life and causes death:

“And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. But He laid His right hand on me, saying to me, “Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last. I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.” Revelation 1:17 NU, M omit to me Revelation 1:17-18

“And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write, ‘These things says the Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet like fine brass: “I know your works, love, service, faith, and your patience; and as for your works, the last are more than the first. Nevertheless I have a few things against you, because you allow that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols. And I gave her time to repent of her sexual immorality, and she did not repent. Indeed I will cast her into a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of their deeds. I will kill her children with death, and all the churches shall know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts. And I will give to each one of you according to your works.”’” Revelation 2:18-23

Jesus further preached that he is the Truth and the Life who will resurrect the dead at the last hour by the power of his majestic voice:

“For as the Father raises the dead and gives life to them, even so the Son gives life to whom He will… Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear THE VOICE OF THE SON OF GOD; and those who hear will live… Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear HIS VOICE and come forth—those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.” John 5:21, 25, 28-29

“‘All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day. And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.’ The Jews then complained about Him, because He said, ‘I am the bread which came down from heaven.’ And they said, ‘Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How is it then that He says, “I have come down from heaven”?’ Jesus therefore answered and said to them, ‘Do not murmur among yourselves. No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day… Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.’” John 6:37-44, 54

“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’” John 14:6

Moreover, the inspired NT writers proclaimed that Christ is God’s unique Son and Heir of all things, being the One whom Father appointed to create and sustain the entire creation by his all-powerful word:

“He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and FOR HIM. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. Footnotes: Colossians 1:13-18

“God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,” Hebrews 1:1-3

This shows that Jesus and his Holy Spirit filled ambassadors did in fact preach that Christ is God Almighty in the flesh by attributing to him the very titles, characteristics, and roles which both the Hebrew Bible and the Quran ascribe to the one true God alone.
