WORSHIPING THE ETERNAL CREATOR

In this post I will be summing up the points found in a plethora of my articles/rebuttals in support of Jesus Christ being identified the eternal Creator and Sustainer of all creation. Obviously, this is to be understood in the context of his being the uniquely begotten Son of God and the eternal Companion of the Holy Spirit, and therefore means that Jesus is not the sole Creator and Life-giver. Rather, the one uncreated Creator and Sustainer is Triune by nature, eternally existing as the Father, and his Son, and the Holy Spirit.

YHWH: THE SOLE CREATOR AND SUSTAINER OF ALL CREATION

The inspired Scriptures proclaim that YHWH is the only God whom believers are to worship and serve:

“Then Jesus said to him, ‘Go, Satan! For it is written, “You shall worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only.”’” Matthew 4:10

One of the reasons for worshiping YHWH is because of his being the eternal Creator and Sustainer of the entire creation:

“You alone are Yahweh. You have made the heavens, The heaven of heavens with all their host, The earth and all that is on it, The seas and all that is in them. You give life to all of them And the heavenly host bows down to You.” Nehemiah 9:6

“And when the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, to Him who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four elders will fall down before Him who sits on the throne, and will worship Him who lives forever and ever, and will cast their crowns before the throne, saying, ‘Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power, for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created.’” Revelation 4:9-11

The Holy Bible proclaims that YHWH alone created and preserves all creation, having made creation all by himself without any assistance:

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1

“Thus the heavens and the earth were completed, and all their hosts. And on the seventh day God completed His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because on it He rested from all His work which God had created in making it. These are the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that Yahweh God made earth and heaven. Now no shrub of the field was yet in the earth, and no plant of the field had yet grown, for Yahweh God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was no man to cultivate the ground. But a stream would rise from the earth and water the whole surface of the ground. Then Yahweh God formed man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and so the man became a living being.” Genesis 2:1-7

“Who alone stretches out the heavens, And tramples down the waves of the sea;” Job 9:8

“Did not He who made me in the womb make him, And the same one fashion us in the womb?” Job 31:15

“I will say to the north, ‘Give them up!’ And to the south, ‘Do not hold them back.’ Bring My sons from afar And My daughters from the ends of the earth, Everyone who is called by My name, And whom I have created for My glory, Whom I have formed, even whom I have made… The beasts of the field will glorify Me, The jackals and the ostriches, Because I have given waters in the wilderness And rivers in the wasteland, To give drink to My chosen people. The people whom I formed for Myself Will recount My praise.” Isaiah 43:6-7, 20-21

“Thus says Yahweh, your Redeemer, and the one who formed you from the womb, ‘I, Yahweh, am the maker of all things, Stretching out the heavens by Myself And spreading out the earth all alone,’” Isaiah 44:24

“But Yahweh is the true God; He is the living God and the everlasting King. At His wrath the earth quakes, And the nations cannot endure His indignation. Thus you shall say to them, ‘The gods that did not make the heavens and the earth will perish from the earth and from under the heavens.’ It is He who made the earth by His power, Who established the world by His wisdom; And by His understanding He has stretched out the heavens.” Jeremiah 10:10-12

Being the one and only Creator and Preserver of the entire creation means that YHWH alone is to be worshiped as God Almighty.

JESUS CHRIST: THE ETERNAL CREATOR AND SUSTAINER

Astonishingly, the inspired Christian Scriptures identify Jesus Christ as the God who brought all created things into being, and who personally sustains the entire creation by his powerful word!

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men… There was the true Light which, coming into the world, enlightens everyone. He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him… And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:1-4, 9-10, 14

“He has rescued us from the domain of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of the Son he loves. In him we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For everything was created BY HIM, in heaven and on earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through him and FOR HIM. He IS before all things, and BY HIM all things hold together. He is also the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that he might come to have first place in everything. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile everything to himself, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.” Colossians 1:13-20 Christian Standard Bible (CSB)

Even more remarkable is the fact that the Father himself takes the following Psalm, which describes YHWH as the unchanging Creator and Sustainer of all creation,

A Prayer of the afflicted when he is faint and pours out his complaint before Yahweh. O Yahweh, hear my prayer! And let my cry for help come to You… But You, O Yahweh, abide forever, And the remembrance of Your name from generation to generation… Of old You founded the earth, And the heavens are the work of Your hands. Even they will perish, but You will remain; And all of them will wear out like a garment; Like clothing You will change them and they will be changed. But You are the same, And Your years will not come to an end.” Psalm 102:1, 12, 25-27

And ascribes it to his Son, thereby glorifying and praising the Son as that very unchangeable YHWH God Almighty!

“But of the Son He says, ‘Your throne, O God (ho theos), is forever and ever, And the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of Your kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You With the oil of gladness above Your companions.’ And, ‘You, Lord [the Son], in the beginning founded the earth, And the heavens are the works of Your hands; They will perish, but You remain; And they all will wear out like a garment, And like a mantle You will roll them up; Like a garment they will also be changed. But You are the same, And Your years will not come to an end.’” Hebrews 1:8-12

Jesus Christ is even worshiped by the entire angelic host in a context where he is described as creating, sustaining and redeeming the creation that the Father brought into being through his agency!

“God, having spoken long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days spoke to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds, who is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power; who, having accomplished cleansing for sins (katharismon ton hamartion poiesamenos), sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become so much better than the angels, as He has inherited a more excellent name than they. For to which of the angels did He ever say, ‘You are My Son, Today I have begotten You”? And again, ‘I will be a Father to Him And He shall be a Son to Me’? And when He again brings the firstborn into the world, He says, ‘And let all the angels of God worship Him (kai proskynesatosan auto angeloi theou).’” Hebrews 1:1-6

Remarkably, in the aforementioned passage the inspired writer attributes the very work of YHWH making purification for sins and the worship that he receives from all the angels to Jesus himself!

“Rejoice, ye heavens, with him, and let all the angels of God worship him (kai proskynesatosan auto angeloi theou); rejoice ye Gentiles, with his people, and let all the sons of God strengthen themselves in him; for he will avenge the blood of his sons, and he will render vengeance, and recompense justice to his enemies, and will reward them that hate him; and the Lord shall purge the land of his people (kai ekkathariei Kyrios ten gen tou laou autou).” Deuteronomy 32:43 LXX – Cf. Psalm 96:7 LXX

This solidifies that Jesus is none other than YHWH Almighty, the eternal Creator and Preserver of all creation, who is essentially one with the Father and the Holy Spirit!
