The Revelation of the Gospel in Adam’s Genealogy

In this post, I am going to demonstrate how the names of the antediluvian humans, starting with Adam and terminating with Noah, all point to the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. When one looks at the meaning of these names one will discover how the Holy Spirit encoded within these names the revelation of the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, whose violent death brings the desperate rest that mankind needs from the effects of sin and the kingdom of darkness.

Here are the various lists, which include the names of the pre-flood humans:

“In the day when God created man, He made him in the likeness of God. He created them male and female. He blessed them and called them Mankind in the day when they were created. Adam lived a hundred and thirty years and became the father of a son in his own likeness, after his own image, and called his name Seth. The days of Adam after he became the father of Seth were eight hundred years, and he had other sons and daughters. So all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years, and he died. Seth lived one hundred and five years and became the father of Enosh. Seth lived after the birth of Enosh eight hundred and seven years and had other sons and daughters. So all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years, and he died. Enosh lived ninety years and became the father of Kenan. Enosh lived after the birth of Kenan eight hundred and fifteen years and had other sons and daughters. So all the days of Enosh were nine hundred and five years, and he died. Kenan lived seventy years and became the father of Mahalalel. Kenan lived after the birth of Mahalalel eight hundred and forty years and had other sons and daughters. So all the days of Kenan were nine hundred and ten years, and he died. Mahalalel lived sixty-five years and became the father of Jared. Mahalalel lived after the birth of Jared eight hundred and thirty years and had other sons and daughters. So all the days of Mahalalel were eight hundred and ninety-five years, and he died. Jared lived one hundred and sixty-two years and became the father of Enoch. Jared lived after the birth of Enoch eight hundred years and had other sons and daughters. So all the days of Jared were nine hundred and sixty-two years, and he died. Enoch lived sixty-five years and became the father of Methuselah. Enoch walked with God after the birth of Methuselah for three hundred years and had other sons and daughters. So all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty-five years. Enoch walked with God, and then he was no more because God took him. Methuselah lived one hundred and eighty-seven years and became the father of Lamech. Methuselah lived after the birth of Lamech seven hundred and eighty-two years and had other sons and daughters. So all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred and sixty-nine years, and he died. Lamech lived one hundred and eighty-two years and had a son. He named his son Noah, saying, ‘This one will comfort us concerning our work and the toil of our hands because of the ground which the Lord has cursed.’ Lamech lived after the birth of Noah five hundred and ninety-five years and had other sons and daughters. So all the days of Lamech were seven hundred and seventy-seven years, and he died. Noah was five hundred years old and became the father of Shem, Ham, and Japheth.” Genesis 5:1-32 Modern English Version (MEV)

Adam, Seth, Enosh; Kenan, Mahalalel, Jared; Enoch, Methuselah, Lamech; Noah” 1 Chronicles 1:1-4a MEV

“…who was the son of Noah, who was the son of Lamech, who was the son of Methuselah, who was the son of Enoch, who was the son of Jared, who was the son of Mahalalel, who was the son of Cainan, who was the son of Enosh, who was the son of Seth, who was the son of Adam, who was the son of God.” Luke 3:36b-38 MEV

When we look at what these names mean and try to piece them together, we then get the following message:

A man that has been appointed, a mortal who comes to purchase a people to be his own possession, being the one whom God praises, and who is himself the praised God that has descended to train up and teach mankind the paths of salvation. He has dedicated himself to fulfilling God’s will by lowering himself in status. He did this in order to experience a violent death, being thrust through by a spear, in order to bring about the rest to a world that desperately needs it.

This is precisely what the New Testament proclaims in regards to the Lord Jesus, as the following verses affirm:

“No one has ascended to heaven except He who descended from heaven, even the Son of Man who is in heaven… He who comes from above is above all. He who is of the earth is earthly and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all.”  John 3:13, 31

“All things are delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son, except the Father. And no one knows the Father, except the Son and he to whom the Son will reveal Him. Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me. For I am meek and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:27-30 MEV

“‘For I came down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. This is the will of the Father who has sent Me, that of all whom He has given Me, I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day. This is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.’ The Jews then murmured about Him, because He said, “I am the bread which came down from heaven.’ They said, ‘Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How is it then that He says, “I have come down from heaven”?‘ Jesus therefore answered them, ‘Do not murmur among yourselves. No one can come to Me unless the Father who has sent Me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day. It is written in the Prophets, ‘They shall all be taught by God.’ Therefore everyone who has heard and has learned of the Father comes to Me. Not that anyone has seen the Father, except He who is from God. He has seen the Father.'” John 6:38-46 MEV

“But now you seek to kill Me, a Man who has told you the truth which I heard from God. Abraham did not do this.” John 8:40 MEV

“For the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me, and have believed that I came from God. I came from the Father and have come into the world. As I said, I am leaving the world and am going to the Father.” John 16:27-28

“When Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, ‘It is finished.’ And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit. Since it was the Day of Preparation, to prevent bodies from remaining on the cross on the Sabbath day (for that Sabbath day was a high day), the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. Therefore the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first and of the other who was crucified with Him. But when they came to Jesus and saw that He was dead already, they did not break His legs. However, one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.” John 19:30-34

“Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. How much more then, being now justified by His blood, shall we be saved from wrath through Him. For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son, how much more, being reconciled, shall we be saved by His life. Furthermore, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.” Romans 5:1, 8-11 MEV

who are Israelites, to whom pertain the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the service of God, and the promises; of whom are the fathers and from whom, according to the flesh, Christ came, who is over all, the eternally blessed God. Amen.” Romans 9:4-5 New King James Version (NKJV)

“Therefore remember that formerly you, the Gentiles in the flesh, who are called the ‘uncircumcision’ by the so-called ‘circumcision’ in the flesh by human hands, were at that time apart from Christ, alienated from the citizenship of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, without hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who were formerly far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For He is our peace, who has made both groups one and has broken down the barrier of the dividing wall, by abolishing in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of the commandments contained in ordinances, that in Himself He might make the two into one new man, thus making peace, and that He might reconcile both to God into one body through the cross, thereby slaying the enmity. And He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father. Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, having been built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, in whom the entire building, tightly framed together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling place of God through the Spirit.” Ephesians 2:11-22 MEV

“In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:5-11 New International Version (NIV)

“For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.  For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.” Colossians 1:13-20 NIV

“as we await the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from all lawlessness and purify for Himself a special people, zealous of good works.” Titus 2:13-14 MEV

“And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know Him who is true, and we are in Him who is true—His Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.” 1 John 5:20 MEV
