In this post, I will use the New World Translation (NWT) of Jehovah’s Witnesses’ Watchtower Bible and Tract Society (https://www.jw.org/en/library/bible/) to show believers how to use their own Bible to prove that Jesus Christ is identified as Jehovah God in the flesh. At times, I’ll also employ some of the other versions of the Holy Bible that the society makes available on their site, in order to contrast how NWT renders some of the texts cited with these other translations.
JEHOVAH
“But Jehovah of armies judges with righteousness; He examines the innermost thoughts and the heart. Let me see your vengeance on them, For to you I have committed my legal case.” Jeremiah 11:20
“I, Jehovah, am searching the heart, Examining the innermost thoughts, To give to each one according to his ways, According to the fruitage of his works.” Jeremiah 17:10
JESUS
“To the angel of the congregation in Thy·a·tiʹra write: These are the things that THE SON OF GOD SAYS, the one who has eyes like a fiery flame and whose feet are like fine copper: ‘I know your deeds, and your love and faith and ministry and endurance, and that your deeds of late are more than those you did at first. Nevertheless, I do hold this against you, that you tolerate that woman Jezʹe·bel, who calls herself a prophetess, and she teaches and misleads my slaves to commit sexual immorality and to eat things sacrificed to idols. And I gave her time to repent, but she is not willing to repent of her sexual immorality. Look! I am about to throw her into a sickbed, and those committing adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of her deeds. And I will kill her children with deadly plague, so that all the congregations will know THAT I AM THE ONE WHO SEARCHES THE INNERMOST THOUGHTS AND HEARTS, AND I WILL GIVE TO YOU INDIVIDUALLY ACCORDING TO YOUR DEEDS.” Revelation 2:18-23
JEHOVAH
“Look! The Sovereign Lord Jehovah will come with power, And his arm will rule for him. Look! His reward is with him, And the wage he pays is before him.” Isaiah 40:10
“Listen to me, O Jacob, and Israel, whom I have called. I am the same One. I am the first; I am also the last.” Isaiah 48:12 – Cf. 41:4; 44:6
“‘I am the Alʹpha and the O·meʹga,’ says Jehovah God, ‘the One who is and who was and who is coming, the Almighty.'” Revelation 1:8
JESUS
“For the Son of man is to come in the glory of his Father with his angels, and then he will repay each one according to his behavior.” Matthew 16:27
“When I saw him, I fell as dead at his feet. And he laid his right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last, and the living one, and I became dead, but look! I am living forever and ever, and I have the keys of death and of the Grave.” Revelation 1:17-18
“‘Look! I AM COMING QUICKLY, AND THE REWARD I GIVE IS WITH ME, TO REPAY EACH ONE ACCORDING TO HIS WORK. I AM THE ALʹPHA and the O·MEʹGA, THE FIRST AND THE LAST, THE BEGINNING AND THE END. Happy are those who wash their robes, so that they may have authority to go to the trees of life and that they may gain entrance into the city through its gates. Outside are the dogs and those who practice spiritism and those who are sexually immoral and the murderers and the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices lying. I, JESUS, sent my angel to bear witness to you about these things for the congregations. I am the root and the offspring of David and the bright morning star.’… The one who bears witness of these things says, ‘YES, I AM COMING QUICKLY.’ ‘Amen! COME, LORD JESUS.'” Revelation 22:13-16, 20
John’s Gospel provides further corroboration that it is Jesus himself who is speaking in the foregoing passage:
“For the Father judges no one at all, but he has entrusted ALL THE JUDGING TO THE SON, so that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.” John 5:22-23
Since Jesus himself says he is the One who does all the judging, not the Father, then this means that it is Jesus who is coming to repay each individual for what s/he has done, and it is, therefore, Christ who is describing himself as the Alpha and Omega, the first and the last, and the beginning and the end. There’s simply no way around this.
JEHOVAH
“You alone are Jehovah; you made the heavens, yes, the heaven of the heavens and all their army, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. And you preserve all of them alive, and the army of the heavens are bowing down to you.” Nehemiah 9:6
“He spreads out the heavens BY HIMSELF, And he treads upon the high waves of the sea.” Job 9:8
“Long ago you laid the foundations of the earth, And the heavens are the work of YOUR HANDS. They will perish, but you will remain; Just like a garment they will all wear out. Just like clothing you will replace them, and they will pass away. But you are the same, and your years will never end.” Psalm 102:25-27
“I will say to the north, ‘Give them up!’ And to the south, ‘Do not hold them back. Bring my sons from afar, and my daughters from the ends of the earth, Everyone who is called by my name And whom I created FOR MY OWN GLORY, Whom I have formed and made.’… The wild beast of the field will honor me, The jackals and the ostriches, For I provide water in the wilderness, Rivers in the desert, For my people, my chosen one, to drink, The people whom I formed FOR MYSELF So that they might declare my praise.” Isaiah 43:6-7, 20-21
“This is what Jehovah says, your Repurchaser, Who formed you since you were in the womb: ‘I am Jehovah, who made everything. I stretched out the heavens BY MYSELF, And I spread out the earth. WHO WAS WITH ME?'” Isaiah 44:24
“I made the earth and created man on it. I stretched out the heavens WITH MY OWN HANDS, And I give orders to all their army… For this is what Jehovah says, The Creator of the heavens, the true God,The One who formed the earth, its Maker who firmly established it, Who did not create it simply for nothing, but formed it to be inhabited: ‘I am Jehovah, and there is no one else.’” Isaiah 45:12, 18
“MY OWN HAND laid the foundation of the earth, AND MY RIGHT HAND spread out the heavens. When I call to them, they stand up together.” Isaiah 48:13
JESUS
“ALL THINGS came into existence THROUGH HIM, and APART FROM HIM not even one thing came into existence. What has come into existence BY MEANS OF HIM was life, and the life was the light of men… The true light that gives light to every sort of man was about to come into the world. He was in the world, and the world came into existence THROUGH HIM, but the world did not know him.” John 1:3-4, 9-10
“who is image of the God the, invisible, firstborn of all, creation, because IN HIM it was created THE ALL (things) in the heavens and upon the, earth, the (things) visible and the (things), invisible, whether thrones or lordship or government authorities; THE ALL (things) THROUGH HIM and IN HIM it has been created; and HE IS BEFORE ALL (things) and THE ALL (things) IN HIM it has stood together,” Colossians 1:15-17 (The Kingdom Interlinear Translation of the Greek Scriptures https://www.jw.org/en/library/bible/kingdom-interlinear-greek-translation/books/colossians/1/#v51001015)
“Who is image of the invisible God, firstborn of all creation, because in him EVERYTHING WAS CREATED in the heavens and on earth, the visible and the invisible, be it thrones or lordships or governments or dominions—EVERYTHING has been created through him and to come to him, and BEFORE EVERYTHING HE IS, and in him EVERYTHING holds together.” (The Bible in Living English https://www.jw.org/en/library/bible/byington/books/colossians/1/#v51001015)
“But when he again brings his Firstborn into the inhabited earth, he says: ‘And let ALL of God’s angels do obeisance to him.’* But about the Son, he says… And: ‘At the beginning, O Lord [the Son], YOU laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the works of YOUR HANDS. They will perish, but YOU will remain; and just like a garment, they will all wear out, and YOU will wrap them up just as a cloak, as a garment, and they will be changed. But YOU are the same, and YOUR years will never come to an end.'” Hebrews 1:6, 8a, 10-12
Footnote: Or “bow down to him.”
“And when he again bringeth in the firstborn into the world he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.” Hebrews 1:6 (American Standard Version https://www.jw.org/en/library/bible/american-standard-version/books/hebrews/1/#v58001006)
Astonishingly Paul has God the Father taking Psalm 102:25-27 cited above, which describes Jehovah as the immutable Creator and Sustainer of all creation, and applying it to his beloved Son!
JEHOVAH
“For Jehovah your God is the God of gods and the Lord of lords, the God great, mighty, and awe-inspiring, who treats none with partiality and does not accept a bribe. ” Deuteronomy 10:17
“Give thanks to the Lord of lords, For his loyal love endures forever.” Psalm 136:3
JESUS
“to observe the commandment in a spotless and irreprehensible way until the manifestation of our Lord Jesus Christ, which the happy and ONLY Potentate will show in its own appointed times. He is the King of those who rule as kings and Lord of those who rule as lords, the one alone having immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see. To him be honor and eternal might. Amen.” 1 Timothy 6:14-16
“These will battle with the Lamb, but because he is Lord of lords and King of kings, the Lamb will conquer them. Also, those with him who are called and chosen and faithful will do so.” Revelation 17:14
“I saw heaven opened, and look! a white horse. And the one seated on it is called Faithful and True, and he judges and carries on war in righteousness. His eyes are a fiery flame, and on his head are many diadems. He has a name written that no one knows but he himself, and he is clothed with an outer garment stained with blood, and he is called by the name The Word of God. Also, the armies in heaven were following him on white horses, and they were clothed in white, clean, fine linen. And out of his mouth protrudes a sharp, long sword with which to strike the nations, and he will shepherd them with a rod of iron. Moreover, he treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. On his outer garment, yes, on his thigh, he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.” Revelation 19:11-16
Since there cannot be two King of kings and Lord of lords reigning in/from heaven,
“Whom do I have in the heavens? And besides you I desire nothing on earth.” Psalm 73:25
“To you I raise my eyes, You who are enthroned in the heavens. As the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, And the eyes of a servant girl to the hand of her mistress, So our eyes look to Jehovah our God Until he shows us favor.” Psalm 123:1-2
“No one can slave for two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will stick to the one and despise the other. You cannot slave for God and for Riches.” Matthew 6:24
This means that Jesus must be Jehovah God Almighty, even though he is not the Father. Otherwise, the JWs must accept the fact that the Holy Bible is contradicting itself.
JEHOVAH
“Into your hand I entrust my spirit. You have redeemed me, O Jehovah, the God of truth.” Psalm 31:5
“Then the dust returns to the earth, just as it was, and the spirit returns to the true God who gave it.” Ecclesiastes 12:7
JESUS
“As they were stoning Stephen, he made this appeal: ‘Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.’” Acts 7:59
JEHOVAH
“After that he planted a tamarisk tree at Beʹer-sheʹba, and there he called on the name of Jehovah, the everlasting God.” Genesis 21:33
“Exalt Jehovah our God and bow down at his footstool; He is holy. Moses and Aaron were among his priests, And Samuel was among those calling on his name. They would call to Jehovah, And he would answer them.” Psalm 99:5-6
“I love Jehovah Because he hears my voice, my pleas for help. For he inclines his ear to me, And I will call on him as long as I live. The ropes of death encircled me; The Grave had me in its grip. I was overcome by distress and grief. But I called on the name of Jehovah: ‘O Jehovah, rescue me!’… I will take up the cup of salvation, And I will call on the name of Jehovah... I will offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving; I will call on the name of Jehovah.” Psalm 116:1-4, 13, 17
JESUS
“There was a disciple named An·a·niʹas in Damascus, and the Lord said to him in a vision: ‘An·a·niʹas!’ He said: “Here I am, Lord.’ The Lord said to him: ‘Get up, go to the street called Straight, and look for a man named Saul, from Tarsus, at the house of Judas. For look! he is praying, and in a vision he has seen a man named An·a·niʹas come in and lay his hands on him so that he may recover sight.’ But An·a·niʹas answered: ‘Lord, I have heard from many about this man, about all the harm he did to YOUR holy ones in Jerusalem. And here he has authority from the chief priests to arrest all those calling on YOUR NAME.’ But the Lord said to him: ‘Go! because this man is a chosen vessel to me to bear my name to the nations as well as to kings and the sons of Israel. For I will show him plainly how many things he must suffer for my name.’ So An·a·niʹas went and entered the house, and he laid his hands on him and said: ‘Saul, brother, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road along which you were coming, has sent me so that you may recover sight and be filled with holy spirit.’… and immediately in the synagogues he began to preach about Jesus, that this one is the Son of God. But all those hearing him were astonished and were saying: ‘Is this not the man who ravaged those in Jerusalem who call on THIS NAME? Did he not come here for the purpose of arresting them and taking them to the chief priests?’” Acts 9:10-17, 20-21
“to the congregation of God that is in Corinth, to you who have been sanctified in union with Christ Jesus, called to be holy ones, together with all those everywhere who are calling on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours: May you have undeserved kindness and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 1:2-3
“Happy and holy is anyone having part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no authority, but they will be priests of God AND OF THE CHRIST, and they will rule as kings with him for the 1,000 years.” Revelation 20:6
God bless you brother for the good job you are doing.
The Lord grants all your heart’s desires in the name of our risen Lord.
